After Christmas hiatus, Sunday Vespers to resume January 4 at D.C. Oratory

The Oratorian Fathers of the Community of St. Philip Neri, currently in formation at Washington’s St. Thomas Apostle Church, have announced that, after a one-week break during the octave of Christmas, the Community will resume public celebration of Solemn Vespers and Benediction on Sunday afternoons beginning in January 2015.

Vespers, the evening prayer of the Church’s Divine Office, will not be scheduled for Sunday, December 28, the Sunday in the Octave of the Nativity, but will resume each Sunday at 4:00 pm beginning on Sunday, January 4.  The service is sung entirely in Gregorian chant; those interested in participating are encouraged to assist in the preparation of the music beginning at 3:30 pm. After Vespers, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed briefly for adoration and Benediction.

St. Thomas Apostle Church is located at 2665 Woodley Road in Woodley Park, one block up from the Woodley Road Metrorail and Metrobus stops at Connecticut Avenue.
