Sunday Solemn Vespers, Benediction continue at D.C. Oratory

A weekly celebration of Solemn Vespers and Benediction that was initiated last October at Washington’s St. Thomas Apostle Church will continue through the Lenten season and beyond. The Sunday afternoon Vespers service is an integral part of the Woodley Park parish’s liturgical program, which is administered by the Oratorian Fathers of the Community of St. Philip Neri, currently in formation at St. Thomas Apostle.

Vespers, the evening prayer of the Church’s Divine Office, is offered each Sunday at 4:00 pm.  The service is sung entirely in Gregorian chant; those interested in participating are encouraged to assist in the preparation of the music beginning at 3:30 pm. Auxiliary Bishop Athanasius Schneider of the Archdiocese of Mary Most Holy in Astana, Kazakhstan, who will be visiting Washington this coming weekend, will be among the attendees on Quinquagesima Sunday, February 15.

St. Thomas Apostle Church is located at 2665 Woodley Road in Woodley Park.
