After Easter hiatus, Sunday Vespers to resume April 12 at D.C. Oratory

The Oratorian Fathers of the Community of St. Philip Neri, currently in formation at Washington’s St. Thomas Apostle Church, have announced that, after a one-week break for Easter, the Community will resume public celebration of Solemn Vespers and Benediction on Sunday afternoons the following week.

Vespers, the evening prayer of the Church’s Divine Office, will not be conducted on Easter Sunday, April 5, but will resume each Sunday at 4:00 pm beginning on Sunday, April 12.  The service, sung entirely in Gregorian chant, is believed to be the only such weekly public celebration of the traditional Office on the Eastern Seaboard.

Those interested in participating are encouraged to assist in the preparation of the music beginning at 3:30 pm. After Vespers, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed briefly for adoration and Benediction.

St. Thomas Apostle Church is located at 2665 Woodley Road in Woodley Park, one block up from the Woodley Road Metrorail and Metrobus stops at Connecticut Avenue.
