SF Archbishop Cordileone to speak Thursday evening at Springfield St. Raymond

The Most Reverend Salvatore Cordileone, Archbishop of San Francisco, will give a talk this Thursday evening, November 19, at St. Raymond of Peñafort Church in Springfield, Virginia, entitled “Marriage: The Foundation of a Civilization Built on Truth and Love.” Archbishop Cordileone’s presentation, which will begin at 7:30 pm, is free and open to the public.

Born in 1956 in San Diego, Archbishop Cordileone has served since 2012 as ordinary of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, home to more than 400,000 Bay Area Catholics in three counties. A canon lawyer, he worked as assistant at the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, the Church’s highest canonical court, from 1995 to 2002. He then served successively as auxiliary bishop of San Diego and bishop of Oakland before being called to the archepiscopate of San Francisco. He currently also serves the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops as chairman of the Subcommittee for the Defense of Marriage.

St. Raymond of Peñafort Church is located in Springfield at 8750 Pohick Road, about six miles west of Interstate 95 near the intersection of Pohick Road and Fairfax County Parkway, and offers ample free parking.

Fr. Czarnota to offer TLM Sunday at Silver Spring

A Low Mass will be offered Sunday, November 15, at the Traditional Latin Mass Congregation of Silver Spring, Maryland.  The celebrant of the Mass of the Sixth Resumed Sunday after Epiphany will be Reverend Father Paul Czarnota of the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Holy Mass will begin at 8:00 am.  Confessions will be heard from 7:30 to 7:55 am.

Fr. Carr to offer Traditional Mass on Wednesday, Saturday

The Traditional Latin Mass (Extraordinary Form) will be offered at 7:00 am on Wednesday and Saturday mornings of this week by Reverend Father Richard Carr at St. Michael Church, 7401 St. Michael’s Lane, Annandale.

On Wednesday morning, November 11, Low Mass of the Feast of St. Martin of Tours will be offered. Low Mass of the Feast of St. Josaphat will be offered on Saturday morning, November 14.

Georgetown TLM scheduled Friday evening at Copley Crypt Chapel

The Georgetown Traditional Latin Mass (Extraordinary Form) Community announces that a Missa Cantata for the Feast of St. Didacus will be offered Friday evening, November 13, at 6:00 pm in Copley Crypt Chapel at Georgetown University. This Mass is being added to our seven-day schedule.

Copley Crypt Chapel is located at the rear of Copley Hall, immediately to the north of Healy Hall on the main campus of Georgetown University, 3700 O Street NW, Washington.

Msgr. Smith to offer Sunday Missa Cantata at Silver Spring

A Missa Cantata with choir will be offered Sunday, November 8, at the Traditional Latin Mass Congregation of Silver Spring, Maryland. Reverend Monsignor K. Bartholomew Smith, pastor of St. Bernadette parish in Four Corners, will be the celebrant of the Mass of the Fifth Resumed Sunday after Epiphany.

Holy Mass will begin at 8:00 am. Confessions will be heard from 7:30 to 7:55 am.

First Friday, Saturday TLMs set at Benedict St. Francis

Two special Traditional Latin Masses will be celebrated this coming weekend at St. Francis de Sales Church in Benedict, Maryland:

  • On Friday evening, November 6, at 7:00 pm, there will be a Traditional Mass for the First Friday in November, followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
  • On Saturday morning, November 7, there will be a Traditional Latin Mass at 8:00 am.

These Masses have been added to our seven-day schedule.

St. Francis de Sales Church is located in Charles County about 45 minutes to an hour south of the Capital Beltway (I-95/495). Established in 1903, the parish has offered the Traditional Latin Mass every Sunday since the first Sunday of Advent 1989.

Fr. Gee to celebrate sung Requiem TLM Thursday evening at Alexandria St. Rita

Readers in the vicinity may wish to note that this week’s regularly scheduled 7:30 pm Traditional Latin Mass at St. Rita of Cascia Church in Alexandria on Thursday evening, November 5, will be a sung Requiem Mass celebrated by the parish’s pastor, Reverend Father Daniel N. Gee. Musical accompaniment will be provided by the men’s schola conducted by David Sullivan. This Mass has been added to our seven-day schedule.

Holy Comforter-St. Cyprian announces Missa Solemnis for All Souls’ Day

A Solemn High Mass of Requiem for the Commemoration of All Souls will be offered at 7:30 pm on Monday evening, November 2, at Washington’s Holy Comforter-St. Cyprian Church. The vocal group Chantry will sing the Officium Defunctoris 1605 by Tomás Luis de Victoria.
