On Thursday evening, August 11, at 7:00 pm, a Traditional Latin Mass will be offered at St. Francis de Sales Church in Benedict, Maryland, in observance of the feast of St. Philomena, Virgin and Martyr. Called the Thaumaturge or Wonder-Worker of God by Pope Gregory XVI, St. Philomena was credited by St. Jean Vianney with the accomplishment of his own miracles.
Reverend Father Thomas LaHood, pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, will celebrate the Mass, which will be followed by novena devotions and veneration of St. Philomena’s relic in the Church. The evening will conclude with a Neapolitan feast in the Church Hall.
St. Francis de Sales Church is located in Charles County about 45 minutes to an hour south of the Capital Beltway (I-95/495). Established in 1903, the parish has offered the Traditional Latin Mass every Sunday since the first Sunday of Advent 1989.
