Fatima talks, Mass set for Saturday at Baltimore St. Alphonsus

This Saturday, September 23, from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm, the Shrine of St. Alphonsus Liguori in Baltimore will host a series of events related to Our Lady of Fatima.

After a continental breakfast in the church hall, Reverend Father Anthony Mastroeni of the Diocese of Paterson will give talks in the morning and afternoon and will celebrate Holy Mass at noon. There will be a potluck lunch after Mass, for which attendees are asked to bring an item to share.

Those planning to attend should notify Susan Krebs by email on inDeoFidemus@verizon.net. There is no charge for Saturday’s program; however, a free will offering will be taken up to support the Shrine and Reparation Society.

The Shrine is located at 114 West Saratoga Street in downtown Baltimore. Free parking for the day’s events will be available in the lot at the corner of Saratoga and Liberty Streets.

Baltimore St. Alphonsus to welcome Fr. Kiefer at Sunday post-TLM social

A social will be held at the National Shrine of St. Alphonsus Liguori in Baltimore after the 11:30 am Traditional Latin Mass this coming Sunday, August 6, to welcome new pastor Reverend Father Joel Kiefer to the parish. Father Kiefer, a member of the Priestly Society of St. Peter, assumed pastoral duties at the Shrine this past Tuesday, August 1, succeeding interim administrator Reverend Father William Spacek of the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

The Shrine, located at 114 West Saratoga Street in downtown Baltimore, now offers the Traditional Latin Mass every Sunday at 11:30 am and every weekday at 7:00 am. These Masses are listed on our seven-day schedule.

Alexandria St. Rita to host Thursday evening reception in honor of Nativity of Mary

Following regularly scheduled 7:30 pm Low Mass at St. Rita of Cascia Church in Alexandria for the feast of the Nativity of Mary on Thursday, September 8, the parish’s Legion of Mary will host a welcome reception in the parish center reception hall. All are welcome to attend.

St. Rita of Cascia Church is located just off Mount Vernon Avenue at the north end of the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria. Ample free parking is available.

Juventutem DC schedules Lenten recollection day at Lourdes Chapel

A Lenten Day of Recollection sponsored by Juventutem DC will be held Tuesday afternoon, March 1, at 4:00 pm in Lourdes Chapel at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Michigan Avenue NE, Washington.

Reverend Father Carlos Hamel FSJC, pastor of La Nativité de la Vierge Parish in the Diocese of Fréjus-Toulon, France, will celebrate a ferial Low Mass of Lent and will offer a recollection on the theme “Sin and God’s mercy in light of St. Ignatius’ Exercises.” All are welcome to attend without charge.

Lourdes Chapel is located on the lower level of the Basilica adjacent to the Crypt Church. The Basilica is about a 10-minute walk from the Brookland-CUA station on Metrorail’s Red Line. Ample free parking is available on the Basilica grounds and in a surface lot across Harewood Road.

Lenten Morning of Recollection scheduled Saturday at St. Thomas Apostle

The Oratorian Community of St. Philip Neri in Washington announces that a Lenten Morning of Recollection will be conducted at St. Thomas Apostle Church in Woodley Park on Saturday, February 20.

Saturday morning’s program includes the following events:

  • Missa Cantata in the Extraordinary Form at 8:30 am, with an opportunity for Confession beginning at 8:00 am
  • Breakfast in the Parish Hall at 9:30 am
  • A spiritual conference in the Parish Hall, “Transfiguration in the Lenten Journey,” at 10:00 am
  • Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament (with an opportunity for Confession) at 10:45 am
  • Benediction at 11:45 am
  • Mass in the Ordinary Form at noon, followed by the Perpetual Novena to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal

All are welcome to attend. There is no charge for any of the day’s events.

Pilgrim Icon of Częstochowa to visit Silver Spring Old St. John’s

This week at the Historic Church of St. John the Evangelist in Silver Spring, Our Lady Queen of Poland parish is hosting the Pilgrim Icon of Our Lady of Częstochowa, which is a special copy of the original painting of the Black Madonna in Częstochowa, Poland. Immediately after Sunday’s 8:00 am Mass, Fr. George, pastor of Our Lady Queen of Poland, will lead the Silver Spring Traditional Latin Mass congregation in prayer in commemoration of the visit of the Icon. All are invited to participate.

SF Archbishop Cordileone to speak Thursday evening at Springfield St. Raymond

The Most Reverend Salvatore Cordileone, Archbishop of San Francisco, will give a talk this Thursday evening, November 19, at St. Raymond of Peñafort Church in Springfield, Virginia, entitled “Marriage: The Foundation of a Civilization Built on Truth and Love.” Archbishop Cordileone’s presentation, which will begin at 7:30 pm, is free and open to the public.

Born in 1956 in San Diego, Archbishop Cordileone has served since 2012 as ordinary of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, home to more than 400,000 Bay Area Catholics in three counties. A canon lawyer, he worked as assistant at the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, the Church’s highest canonical court, from 1995 to 2002. He then served successively as auxiliary bishop of San Diego and bishop of Oakland before being called to the archepiscopate of San Francisco. He currently also serves the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops as chairman of the Subcommittee for the Defense of Marriage.

St. Raymond of Peñafort Church is located in Springfield at 8750 Pohick Road, about six miles west of Interstate 95 near the intersection of Pohick Road and Fairfax County Parkway, and offers ample free parking.

First Friday, Saturday TLMs set at Benedict St. Francis

Two special Traditional Latin Masses will be celebrated this coming weekend at St. Francis de Sales Church in Benedict, Maryland:

  • On Friday evening, November 6, at 7:00 pm, there will be a Traditional Mass for the First Friday in November, followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
  • On Saturday morning, November 7, there will be a Traditional Latin Mass at 8:00 am.

These Masses have been added to our seven-day schedule.

St. Francis de Sales Church is located in Charles County about 45 minutes to an hour south of the Capital Beltway (I-95/495). Established in 1903, the parish has offered the Traditional Latin Mass every Sunday since the first Sunday of Advent 1989.

Msgr. Wadsworth to celebrate solemn 25th anniversary ordination Mass Wednesday at St. Thomas Apostle

A Missa Solemnis for the Feast of St. Jerome will be celebrated at 7:00 pm this Wednesday evening, September 30, at Washington’s St. Thomas Apostle Church by Reverend Monsignor Andrew Wadsworth in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood.

Msgr. Wadsworth, who was ordained to the sacred priesthood of Jesus Christ on September 30, 1990, is assistant pastor of St. Thomas Apostle Church and moderator of the community-in-formation for the Oratory of St. Philip Neri in the Archdiocese of Washington. He also serves as Executive Director of the International Commission on English in the Liturgy (ICEL).

All are invited to attend Wednesday evening’s Mass, which will be followed by a drinks reception in the parish hall. This Mass has been added to our seven-day schedule.
