Lenten Morning of Recollection scheduled Saturday at St. Thomas Apostle

The Oratorian Community of St. Philip Neri in Washington announces that a Lenten Morning of Recollection will be conducted at St. Thomas Apostle Church in Woodley Park on Saturday, February 20.

Saturday morning’s program includes the following events:

  • Missa Cantata in the Extraordinary Form at 8:30 am, with an opportunity for Confession beginning at 8:00 am
  • Breakfast in the Parish Hall at 9:30 am
  • A spiritual conference in the Parish Hall, “Transfiguration in the Lenten Journey,” at 10:00 am
  • Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament (with an opportunity for Confession) at 10:45 am
  • Benediction at 11:45 am
  • Mass in the Ordinary Form at noon, followed by the Perpetual Novena to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal

All are welcome to attend. There is no charge for any of the day’s events.

St. Thomas Apostle Church is located at 2665 Woodley Road in Washington, one block up Woodley Road from the Woodley Park Metrorail and Metrobus stops at Connecticut Avenue. Limited street parking is available.

Missa Solemnis set for Friday evening at Alexandria St. Mary

On Friday evening, February 19, Missa Cantata of Ember Friday in Lent will be offered at 7:30 pm at historic St. Mary Church in Alexandria.

Reverend Father James Bradley of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham will be the celebrant. Opportunities for Confession will be available. This Mass has been added to our seven-day schedule.

St. Mary Church is located at 310 South Royal Street in Old Town Alexandria.

Georgetown TLM scheduled Friday evening at Copley Crypt Chapel

The Georgetown Traditional Latin Mass (Extraordinary Form) Community announces that a votive Missa Cantata for Ember Friday in Lent will be offered Friday evening, February 17, at 6:00 pm in Copley Crypt Chapel at Georgetown University. This Mass is being added to our seven-day schedule.

Copley Crypt Chapel is located at the rear of Copley Hall, immediately to the north of Healy Hall on the main campus of Georgetown University, 3700 O Street NW, Washington.

Fr. Markey to offer Sunday Missa Cantata at Silver Spring

A Missa Cantata will be offered Sunday, February 14, at the Traditional Latin Mass Congregation of Silver Spring, Maryland.  The celebrant of the Mass of the First Sunday in Lent will be Reverend Father Greg Markey of the Diocese of Bridgeport.

Holy Mass will begin at 8:00 am.  Confessions will be heard from 7:30 to 7:55 am.

Fr. Logan to offer Sunday TLM at Silver Spring

A Low Mass will be offered Sunday, March 15, at the Traditional Latin Mass Congregation of Silver Spring, Maryland.  Reverend Father Aidan Logan OCSO, Director of Vocations for the Archdiocese of the Military Services, will celebrate the Mass of the Fourth Sunday of Lent (Laetare Sunday).

Holy Mass will begin at 8:00 am.  Confessions will be heard from 7:30 to 7:55 am.

Fr. Heenan to celebrate EF Vespers, Benediction at Leesburg St. John

On Sunday evening, March 15 (Laetare Sunday), the Institute of Catholic Culture will host a traditional service of Vespers and Benediction at St. John the Apostle Church in Leesburg, Virginia.

Reverend Father Daniel Heenan FSSP, parochial vicar of San Pedro en Cadenas in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, will be the celebrant for Solemn Vespers in the Extraordinary Form and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament at 7:00 pm. Music will be provided by Chorus Sine Nomine of Arlington. A reception will follow.

Juventutem DC schedules Lenten recollection day at Lourdes Chapel

A Lenten Day of Recollection sponsored by Juventutem DC will be held at midday on Monday, March 16, in Lourdes Chapel at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington.

Reverend Father Daniel Heenan FSSP, parochial vicar of San Pedro en Cadenas in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, will offer a Traditional Low Mass at 11:30 am. Mass will be followed by a recollection on the theme “Make unto You Friends of the Mammon of Iniquity (Luke 16:9): Lenten Almsgiving.” Confessions will be available before Mass beginning at 10:45 am.

Contributions are being solicited to help the FSSP continue to expand its apostolic outreach in Mexico and throughout Latin America. Fr. Heenan writes about this work in a recently published article at New Liturgical Movement that includes a donation link.

Canons Regular schedule Lenten Quiet Days at Charles Town priory

The Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem have scheduled two Lenten Quiet Days at the Priory of the New Jerusalem in Charles Town, West Virginia. A Quiet Day for women is scheduled on Saturday, March 7, while a Quiet Day for men is scheduled for the following Saturday, March 14.

Each Quiet Day begins with the Traditional Latin Mass at 9:30 am and ends with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at 3:30 pm. Two spiritual conferences will be given by the Canons on the theme of Genesis 3: the Fall of our first parents, the implications for our lives, and the solution in Christ. The cost of the program is $20 which includes lunch; ample free parking is available at the Priory.

The Priory of the New Jerusalem is located at 219 S. George Street in Charles Town, West Virginia, about 90 minutes’ drive from the Capital Beltway via Interstates 270 and 70 and U.S. Highway 340.

Juventutem DC sets Lenten recollection at NE St. Francis de Sales

On Wednesday, March 18, Juventutem DC is sponsoring a Lenten evening of recollection at St. Francis de Sales Church in Northeast Washington.

The evening will begin at 6:00 pm with a Low Mass celebrated in the convent chapel by Reverend Father Brian Sanderfoot. A recollection will follow on the theme “Turning Toward the Lord: Lenten Fasting.” Recitation of the Holy Rosary will conclude the evening.

St. Francis de Sales Church is located at the corner of Rhode Island Avenue NE and 20th Street NE, about a 30-minute walk from Catholic University. Parking is available in the lot off St. Francis de Sales Place a half block off 20th Street, adjacent to the convent. Street parking is limited; motorists are advised to heed posted signs and rush hour and meter regulations.

Traditional Good Friday services scheduled at Silver Spring TLM

Good Friday services in the Traditional Form of the Roman Rite will be conducted this Friday, April 18, at the Traditional Latin Mass Congregation of Silver Spring, Maryland.

Monsignor Thomas Olszyk, Judicial Vicar of the Archdiocese of the Military Services, will lead the Stations of the Cross at 11:30 am, followed by the traditional Good Friday liturgy at noon.  Confessions will be heard from 10:45 to 11:30 am.

During the Good Friday liturgy, an Archdiocesan scheduled collection will be taken up for the benefit of the Church in the Holy Land.
