Epiphany blessings, High Mass set at Baltimore St. Alphonsus

Blessings for the Feast of the Epiphany and a High Mass in the Extraordinary Form will be offered on Saturday morning, January 6, at the National Shrine of St. Alphonsus in Baltimore.

At 9:00 am, Reverend Father Joel Kiefer fssp, pastor of St. Alphonsus parish, will bless water and chalk for use in the home along with gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The faithful may bring water in their own containers (as long as the container’s mouth is not too small and it is reserved for the use of holy water) or purchase Lourdes water at the parish store to be blessed. Mass will follow at 10:00 am. Coffee will be served after Mass, and attendees are invited to bring lunch or brunch items to share.

The Shrine is located at 114 West Saratoga Street in downtown Baltimore. Street parking will be available for $2.00 per hour. Free parking will be available one block away in the surface lot at the southeast corner of Liberty and Saratoga Streets.

Monday evening TLM set at Crystal City Lourdes

The Traditional Latin Mass (Extraordinary Form) will be offered at 7:00 pm this coming Monday evening, January 8, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Arlington. Reverend Father Eric Shafer, parochial vicar of Sacred Heart Church in Winchester, Virginia, will be the celebrant of the Mass, which has been added to our seven-day schedule.

Our Lady of Lourdes Church is located four blocks west of U.S. Route 1 in Crystal City and offers ample free parking. Metrorail provides frequent service on the Blue and Yellow Lines to the Crystal City station, a 15-minute walk from the church.

Epiphany water, chalk to be blessed this Saturday at McLean St. John

The venerable and powerful blessing of Epiphany Water will be done according to the Traditional Latin Rite at St. John the Beloved Church in McLean on Saturday evening, January 6, at 7:30 pm in the church. Those who wish to take home blessed Epiphany Water should bring a small empty container, worthy of and designated for this use. Those unable to attend may see the sacristan to obtain Epiphany Water. Blessed Epiphany Chalk for home use will also be available that weekend.

St. John the Beloved Church is located at 6420 Linway Terrace, near the intersection of Old Dominion Drive and Birch Road in McLean. Ample free parking is available.

Baltimore St. Alphonsus to offer additional Sunday TLM in 2018

balt2Beginning this coming Sunday, January 7 (Feast of the Holy Family), the worship schedule at the Shrine of St. Alphonsus in Baltimore will expand to include two traditional Latin Masses each Sunday:

  • A quiet low Mass at 8:00 am
  • A high Mass or low Mass with hymns at 11:00 am

The weekday Mass schedule will remain unchanged:

  • Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 12:10 pm
  • Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 7:00 am

The Shrine is located at 114 West Saratoga Street in downtown Baltimore. Parking is available nearby in metered spaces, on surface lots, and in garages. There is no charge on Sunday for parking on the street or on the surface lot at the corner of Liberty and Saratoga Streets. During the week, motorists are cautioned to heed meter charges and street parking restrictions, especially during morning rush hours.

Fr. Carr to offer TLM this Monday morning

The Traditional Latin Mass (Extraordinary Form) will be offered at 10:00 am on Monday morning, January 1, at St. Michael Church, 7401 St. Michael’s Lane, Annandale. Reverend Father Richard Carr will celebrate Low Mass of the Feast of the Circumcision of Our Lord.

Please note that this Mass is scheduled at the discretion of the celebrant, and is not part of the parish’s published Mass calendar. This Mass has been added to our seven-day schedule.

TLMs scheduled for Sunday, Monday at Silver Spring

A Low Mass in the Extraordinary Form is scheduled at 8:00 am on Sunday, December 31, at the Traditional Latin Mass Congregation of Silver Spring, Maryland. The celebrant of the Mass of Sunday in the Octave of Christmas will be Reverend Father Zachary Akers, a native of the Washington area who was ordained in 2014 for the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter and currently serves as the Fraternity’s Director of Development at their Pennsylvania headquarters. Confessions will be heard from 7:30 to 7:55 am.

Additionally, a Low Mass is scheduled at 10:00 am on Monday, January 1. The celebrant of the Mass of the Octave of the Nativity will be Reverend Father Vincent Rigdon, pastor of Our Lady of the Presentation parish in Poolesville, Maryland. Confessions will be heard from 9:30 to 9:55 am.

D.C. St. Francis de Sales sets Vespers for New Year’s Eve

Solemn Vespers in the Extraordinary Form will be sung at 5:00 pm this Sunday, December 31, at Washington’s St. Francis de Sales Church. At the conclusion of Vespers, the Te Deum will be chanted, gaining all in attendance a plenary indulgence under the usual conditions.

A Low Mass in the Traditional Dominican Rite is scheduled on Monday, December 25, at the Traditional Latin Mass Congregation of Silver Spring, Maryland. The celebrant of the Mass of the Nativity will be Reverend Father Dominic Langevin op, Instructor in Systematic Theology at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington.

Holy Mass will begin at 8:00 am. Confessions will be heard from 7:10 to 7:50 am.

Fr. Langevin to offer Dominican Rite Missa Cantata on Sunday at Silver Spring

A Missa Cantata with choir in the Traditional Dominican Rite is scheduled on Sunday, December 24, at the Traditional Latin Mass Congregation of Silver Spring, Maryland. The celebrant of the Mass of the Vigil of the Nativity will be Reverend Father Dominic Langevin op, Instructor in Systematic Theology at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington.

Holy Mass will begin at 8:00 am. Confessions will be heard from 7:10 to 7:50 am. After Mass several Dominican seminarians will be selling various CD’s which have been produced by the Dominicans at their house of studies in Washington, D.C. Attendees are encouraged to take this opportunity to support the Dominicans in reciprocity for their support of the Latin Mass at Old St. John’s.
