Lauda, Jerusalem! Charles Town Canons to celebrate two ordinations in October

On Saturday morning, October 17, at 10:00 am, two brothers of the Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem will join the Very Reverend Prior Daniel Augustine Oppenheimer CRNJ as priests of the Charles Town, West Virginia, monastic community.

Dom John Berchmans Tonkin CRNJ and Dom Alban Baker CRNJ will be ordained to the sacred priesthood of Jesus Christ at the hands of the Right Reverend Athanasius Schneider ORC, Auxiliary Bishop of Astana, Kazakhstan, during a traditional Mass of Ordination in the presence and with the approval of their Ordinary, the Most Reverend Michael J. Bransfield, Bishop of Wheeling-Charleston. The ordinations will be celebrated at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 49 Crosswinds Drive, Charles Town. A reception will follow.

On each of the two days following, a public First Mass in the Extraordinary Form will be celebrated by one of the new ordinands at the Priory of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 301 South George Street, Charles Town. Dom John Berchmans will celebrate a First Mass on Sunday morning, October 18, at 10:15 am. On Monday evening, October 19, Dom Alban will celebrate a First Mass at 7:30 pm.

Canons Regular schedule Lenten Quiet Days at Charles Town priory

The Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem have scheduled two Lenten Quiet Days at the Priory of the New Jerusalem in Charles Town, West Virginia. A Quiet Day for women is scheduled on Saturday, March 7, while a Quiet Day for men is scheduled for the following Saturday, March 14.

Each Quiet Day begins with the Traditional Latin Mass at 9:30 am and ends with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at 3:30 pm. Two spiritual conferences will be given by the Canons on the theme of Genesis 3: the Fall of our first parents, the implications for our lives, and the solution in Christ. The cost of the program is $20 which includes lunch; ample free parking is available at the Priory.

The Priory of the New Jerusalem is located at 219 S. George Street in Charles Town, West Virginia, about 90 minutes’ drive from the Capital Beltway via Interstates 270 and 70 and U.S. Highway 340.

Quiet days offered by CRNJ in March, April

The Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem (CRNJ), a clerical institute of consecrated life in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston whose members are devoted to traditional worship as provided for in Ecclesia Dei, will host three Quiet Days of recollection and reflection on successive Saturdays in March and April at their priory in Charles Town, West Virginia.

On March 22, the first Quiet Day, “Manna in Deserto: Men’s Quiet Day on the Eucharist,” will be conducted.  The series will continue on Saturday, March 29, with “Quiet Day for Homeschooling Mothers,” and will conclude with “Manna in Deserto: Women’s Quiet Day on the Eucharist” on April 5.

Each Quiet Day begins at 9:30 a.m. and concludes at 3:30 p.m.  There is no charge for registration.  A limited number of advance tickets is available for each Quiet Day.
