A Day of Recollection sponsored by Juventutem DC will be held this Friday afternoon, March 10, at 3:30 pm in Lourdes Chapel at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Michigan Avenue NE, Washington.

Reverend Father Andrew Royals, pastor of St. Joseph Church in Morganza, Maryland, will celebrate Low Mass of Ember Friday in Lent, and afterward will speak on the topic “Rend Your Hearts, Not Your Garments.” The Mass and recollection are free of charge and open to the public. This Mass has been added to our seven-day schedule.

Lourdes Chapel is located on the lower level of the Basilica adjacent to the Crypt Church. The Basilica is about a 10-minute walk from the Brookland-CUA station on Metrorail’s Red Line. Metered parking is available on the Basilica grounds; ample free parking is available in a surface lot across Harewood Road.

Reverend Father Carlos Hamel of the Fraternity of Saint Joseph the Guardian will celebrate a Missa Cantata for the Feast of St. Matthias, Apostle and Martyr, and afterward will speak about the murder of Fr. Jacques Hamel in odium fidei last year in France as well as the Catholics who are suffering martyrdom in the Middle East. The Mass and recollection are free of charge and open to the public.

A Day of Recollection sponsored by Juventutem DC will be held Thursday afternoon, September 15, at 4:00 pm in Lourdes Chapel at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Michigan Avenue NE, Washington.

Reverend Father Brian Sanderfoot, pastor of St. Francis de Sales Church in Northeast Washington, will celebrate the Mass of the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary and afterward will offer a recollection on the theme “The Roman Canon: We Don’t Change It, It Changes Us.” A men’s Gregorian schola will provide musical accompaniment to the Mass, including the sequence “Stabat Mater.”

The Mass and recollection are free of charge and open to the public; new and returning students at the Catholic University of America and other area colleges and universities are especially invited to attend. Afterward, a social hour is planned at Brookland Pint, 716 Monroe Street NE.

Juventutem DC schedules Lenten recollection day at Lourdes Chapel

A Lenten Day of Recollection sponsored by Juventutem DC will be held at midday on Monday, March 16, in Lourdes Chapel at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington.

Reverend Father Daniel Heenan FSSP, parochial vicar of San Pedro en Cadenas in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, will offer a Traditional Low Mass at 11:30 am. Mass will be followed by a recollection on the theme “Make unto You Friends of the Mammon of Iniquity (Luke 16:9): Lenten Almsgiving.” Confessions will be available before Mass beginning at 10:45 am.

Contributions are being solicited to help the FSSP continue to expand its apostolic outreach in Mexico and throughout Latin America. Fr. Heenan writes about this work in a recently published article at New Liturgical Movement that includes a donation link.

Juventutem DC sets Lenten recollection at NE St. Francis de Sales

On Wednesday, March 18, Juventutem DC is sponsoring a Lenten evening of recollection at St. Francis de Sales Church in Northeast Washington.

The evening will begin at 6:00 pm with a Low Mass celebrated in the convent chapel by Reverend Father Brian Sanderfoot. A recollection will follow on the theme “Turning Toward the Lord: Lenten Fasting.” Recitation of the Holy Rosary will conclude the evening.

St. Francis de Sales Church is located at the corner of Rhode Island Avenue NE and 20th Street NE, about a 30-minute walk from Catholic University. Parking is available in the lot off St. Francis de Sales Place a half block off 20th Street, adjacent to the convent. Street parking is limited; motorists are advised to heed posted signs and rush hour and meter regulations.

Blessed Karl of Austria feast day Solemn High Mass set at Old St. Mary’s

A Solemn High Mass for the feast day of Blessed Karl of Austria, Emperor and King, will be offered at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at St. Mary Mother of God Church, 727 5th Street NW, Washington, home of the first shrine dedicated to Blessed Karl in the Washington area.

The celebrant of the Mass will be Fr. James Bradley of the Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, assisted by deacon Fr. Jacob Straub, subdeacon Fr. Tyron Tomson, and homilist Fr. Richard Mullins.  Music will be provided by St. Mary’s Schola and by the polyphonic choir Musikanten, directed by Kerry Krebill.  A first-class relic of Blessed Karl will be displayed for veneration.

After the Mass a reception will be held at Market-to-Market Café across 5th Street from St. Mary’s.  Speakers at the reception will include His Imperial and Royal Highness, The Prince Imperial of Brazil, Dom Bertrand of Orléans-Braganza; Daniela Petchik, leader of Juventutem DC; and Catholic apologist Raymond de Souza.

Juventutem DC to host Holy Saturday Tenebrae

Via New Liturgical Movement, we are informed that on Saturday, April 19, at 9:00 a.m., the traditional Holy Saturday Offices of Matins and Lauds will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Washington.  Msgr. Andrew Wadsworth of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri will lead the chanting of the Office according to the 1962 Breviary.

The event is sponsored by Juventutem DC.  St. Thomas the Apostle Church is located at 2665 Woodley Road NW in Woodley Park.

Homeless service night set for Sunday, March 23, at Georgetown Epiphany

Juventutem DC announces the opportunity to join them in service on Sunday evening, March 23, when Epiphany Catholic Church in Georgetown will host a group of homeless individuals for dinner and provide nighttime lodging.

Volunteers will arrive to set up at 6:00 p.m., with food service to begin at 7:00 p.m.  After clean-up, Fr. Jacob Straub will lead the group in praying Compline.

Those wishing to participate may indicate their interest via Facebook or by email.

Wednesday evening of recollection set at St. Thomas Apostle

Juventutem DC announces that Fr. James Bradley will conduct an evening of recollection on St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, on Wednesday evening, March 19, at the Church of St. Thomas Apostle, 2665 Woodley Road NW, Washington.

A spiritual conference (not including Holy Mass) will begin at 7:00 p.m.  Confessions and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament will follow.
