Baltimore St. Alphonsus sets changes to this week’s daily Mass schedule

Several daily Masses will be rescheduled or postponed this week at Baltimore’s National Shrine of St. Alphonsus Liguori because of the scheduled absence of pastor Reverend Father Joel Kiefer fssp. Note that all the times below are subject to change.

  • Tuesday morning’s Mass, ordinarily offered at 7:00 am, will be offered at 6:00 am.
  • In the absence of another celebrant, no Mass will be offered Wednesday through Friday.
  • Saturday’s Mass, ordinarily offered at 7:00 am, will be offered at 12:10 pm.

It is advised to check the parish website or bulletin for updates to this schedule. The regular Mass schedule is expected to resume on Sunday, January 14.

The National Shrine of St. Alphonsus Liguori is located in downtown Baltimore. Parking is available nearby in metered spaces, on surface lots, and in garages. There is no charge for street parking on weekdays before 8:00 am or after 6:00 pm. However, motorists are cautioned not to park on the south side of Saratoga Street, or on Park Avenue north of Saratoga Street, during weekday morning rush hours from 7:00 am to 9:00 am.

Epiphany blessings, High Mass set at Baltimore St. Alphonsus

Blessings for the Feast of the Epiphany and a High Mass in the Extraordinary Form will be offered on Saturday morning, January 6, at the National Shrine of St. Alphonsus in Baltimore.

At 9:00 am, Reverend Father Joel Kiefer fssp, pastor of St. Alphonsus parish, will bless water and chalk for use in the home along with gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The faithful may bring water in their own containers (as long as the container’s mouth is not too small and it is reserved for the use of holy water) or purchase Lourdes water at the parish store to be blessed. Mass will follow at 10:00 am. Coffee will be served after Mass, and attendees are invited to bring lunch or brunch items to share.

The Shrine is located at 114 West Saratoga Street in downtown Baltimore. Street parking will be available for $2.00 per hour. Free parking will be available one block away in the surface lot at the southeast corner of Liberty and Saratoga Streets.

Baltimore St. Alphonsus to offer additional Sunday TLM in 2018

balt2Beginning this coming Sunday, January 7 (Feast of the Holy Family), the worship schedule at the Shrine of St. Alphonsus in Baltimore will expand to include two traditional Latin Masses each Sunday:

  • A quiet low Mass at 8:00 am
  • A high Mass or low Mass with hymns at 11:00 am

The weekday Mass schedule will remain unchanged:

  • Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 12:10 pm
  • Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 7:00 am

The Shrine is located at 114 West Saratoga Street in downtown Baltimore. Parking is available nearby in metered spaces, on surface lots, and in garages. There is no charge on Sunday for parking on the street or on the surface lot at the corner of Liberty and Saratoga Streets. During the week, motorists are cautioned to heed meter charges and street parking restrictions, especially during morning rush hours.

Rorate Mass to be offered this Saturday morning at Baltimore St. Alphonsus

wp-1449967152122Continuing the restoration of an Advent tradition that had fallen into disuse after Vatican II with the abandonment of the Traditional Latin Mass, a candlelit Rorate Mass will be offered at 6:30 am this coming Saturday morning, December 16, at the National Shrine of St. Alphonsus in Baltimore.

Because no interior lighting other than candles will be in use during the Mass, those interested in the day’s Lesson and Gospel are advised to review them beforehand. A donation page has been set up on the Shrine’s website for those wishing to contribute candles for the Mass. After the Rorate Mass, there will be a potluck meal in the church basement.

Baltimore St. Alphonsus to offer 3 Immaculate Conception TLMs

Three Low Masses for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception will be offered this Friday, December 8, at the Shrine of St. Alphonsus Liguori in Baltimore, at 7:00 am, 12:10 pm, and 7:00 pm. The faithful are reminded that the Feast is a Holy Day of Obligation.

The Shrine is located at 114 West Saratoga Street in downtown Baltimore. While the lot at the corner of Saratoga and Liberty Streets will not be available, metered street parking will be available subject to rush-hour restrictions, and no meter fees are charged before 8:00 am or after 6:00 pm.

Fr. Saguto to offer Sunday TLM, give talk at Baltimore St. Alphonsus

Fr. Kiefer to offer additional Sunday Mass at 7:00 am

fr_gerard_sagutoThis Sunday, October 8, at 11:30 am, the Traditional Latin Mass at the Shrine of St. Alphonsus Liguori in Baltimore will be celebrated by Reverend Father Gerard Saguto, North American District Superior of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter. After Mass, Father Saguto will give a talk in the Shrine’s courtyard. All are invited to attend.

Also, this Sunday only, Shrine pastor Reverend Father Joel Kiefer will offer an additional Low Mass at 7:00 am.

The Shrine is located at 114 West Saratoga Street in downtown Baltimore. Free street parking for Sunday Mass will be available, as well as in the lot at the corner of Saratoga and Liberty Streets. Attendees are advised to be aware of road closures for Sunday afternoon’s Columbus Day parade.

Fatima talks, Mass set for Saturday at Baltimore St. Alphonsus

This Saturday, September 23, from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm, the Shrine of St. Alphonsus Liguori in Baltimore will host a series of events related to Our Lady of Fatima.

After a continental breakfast in the church hall, Reverend Father Anthony Mastroeni of the Diocese of Paterson will give talks in the morning and afternoon and will celebrate Holy Mass at noon. There will be a potluck lunch after Mass, for which attendees are asked to bring an item to share.

Visiting Fr. Insco FSSP to offer Masses, first blessings at Baltimore St. Alphonsus

A visiting priest of the Priestly Society of St. Peter, Reverend Father Caleb Insco, will offer the 12:10 pm Masses at the Shrine of St. Alphonsus Liguori in Baltimore this Wednesday, September 13, and Friday, September 15.

Father Insco, a recent FSSP ordinand, will offer individual First Blessings after Friday’s Mass and Sacred Heart devotions. All members of the faithful are encouraged to receive Fr. Insco’s blessing, which is indulgenced during a priest’s first year after ordination.

Three weekday Masses to move to midday

Beginning this Monday, August 21, the time of the weekday Traditional Latin Mass at the National Shrine of St. Alphonsus Liguori in Baltimore will change to 12:10 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, the TLM will continue to be offered at 7:00 am as previously. Confessions will be heard from 11:30 am to noon Monday through Saturday, as well as during the half-hour previous to every [CORRECTION: Sunday, not necessarily weekday] Traditional Latin Mass.

There is no charge for street parking before 8:00 am on weekdays; however, motorists are cautioned not to park on the south side of Saratoga Street, or on Park Avenue north of Saratoga Street, during weekday morning rush hours from 7:00 am to 9:00 am. MTA bus service runs frequently on Saratoga Street and on nearby Cathedral Street.

Baltimore St. Alphonsus to welcome Fr. Kiefer at Sunday post-TLM social

A social will be held at the National Shrine of St. Alphonsus Liguori in Baltimore after the 11:30 am Traditional Latin Mass this coming Sunday, August 6, to welcome new pastor Reverend Father Joel Kiefer to the parish. Father Kiefer, a member of the Priestly Society of St. Peter, assumed pastoral duties at the Shrine this past Tuesday, August 1, succeeding interim administrator Reverend Father William Spacek of the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

The Shrine, located at 114 West Saratoga Street in downtown Baltimore, now offers the Traditional Latin Mass every Sunday at 11:30 am and every weekday at 7:00 am. These Masses are listed on our seven-day schedule.
